The Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind curriculum is a thorough, easy-to-use grammar program that will bring students from the early stages of basic definitions through advanced sentence structure and analysis. Picking up where the First Language Lessons series left off, this course will give students the grammar skills needed to write and speak well.
This Red Workbook (part of a planned four-level series where the "color" levels may be used in any order) is part of a course that is intended to be used along with the Red Workbook Key, Core Instructor Text, and Comprehensive Handbook of Rules(all of which are sold-separately).
Parents and teachers go through the dialogue, rules, and examples in the Core Instructor Text while students follow along in this Workbook. The Comprehensive Handbook of Rules covers all the rules along with repeated examples and will become the student's guide to writing.
This innovative program combines the three essential elements of language learning: understanding and memorizing rules (prescriptive teaching), repeated exposure to examples of how those rules are used (descriptive instruction), and practice using those rules in exercises and in writing (practical experience).
This workbook features numbered lessons that briefly re-state the primary rule or rules being taught before diving into a variety of exercises that will carefully build understanding. Charts, graphics, and examples are integrated as needed, and regular review is incorporated throughout. Exercises often draw from literature, novels, histories, biographies, and science books to encourage students to see how the rules they're learning operate in real literature.
This red level can be used for Grade 5 & up. Covers one year of instruction.
602 pages, softcover. Reproducible for in-family use only.
