What's a Portfolio Evaluation?
A portfolio evaluation is one of the most flexible and family-friendly ways to meet Florida’s homeschool requirements—and at The Homeschool Hive, we make it a fun and encouraging experience!
Our evaluations are conducted by Florida-certified teachers (who are also homeschool Moms!) We lovingly call them our Mini Bees 🐝. They understand the homeschool lifestyle and are here to help your family shine.
Your child’s portfolio should include:
- Samples of work like writing, worksheets, projects, or creative materials
- A log of educational activities completed throughout the year
- A list of reading materials used during instruction
During your evaluation, your Mini Bee will chat with you and your child about what they’ve learned and accomplished over the year. We keep the atmosphere relaxed, positive, and full of encouragement—because celebrating your child’s progress should feel good!

How Do Evaluations Work?
Evaluations aren’t tests—they’re conversations! Whether by Zoom, phone, or in-person, your Mini Bee will spend time chatting with both you and your child about what you’ve learned together throughout the year.
Expect a warm, welcoming vibe (think: cozy chat, not stuffy interview). We'll ask a few questions, flip through your portfolio, and help you feel confident about your homeschool progress.

Before Your Appointment...
Here are a few tips to make your evaluation smooth and stress-free:
Zoom Appointments
Your meeting link will be emailed 5–10 minutes before your scheduled time. (Don’t forget to check your spam folder!)
Phone Call Evaluations
Please send portfolio samples at least 48 hours before your appointment so we can give them the attention they deserve.
Invoicing
You'll receive one via Square the weekend before your evaluation.
We’ve got your back—just follow the steps and we’ll handle the rest.
Booking Details & Policies
Please book each child individually so everyone gets the time and attention they need.
A credit card is required to hold your spot, but don’t worry—we won’t charge it unless your scholarship funds aren’t reserved. We’ll send instructions once you book!
Cancellation policy:
⏰ Cancellations made under 48 hours: $25 fee
🚫 No-shows: Charged in full
