Teach students to write with assignments that also teach U.S. history - - from Explorers to the Modern Times!

Designed to be used by teachers who have been through the Institute for Excellence in Writing's Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and students who have at least one year of experience with the IEW model of writing, this course teaches students more advanced writing skills such as thesis statements, MLA format, persuasive essays, research papers, and more.

The course moves through the units taught in TWSS, along with advanced essay models, helping students to learn to write argumentative, personal, narrative, descriptive, persuasive, research, and literary analysis essays.

The teacher's manual provides a scope and sequence, lesson planning helps, vocabulary quizzes, and answer keys. Inset pages of the student book are provided along with with teacher instructions, question answers, sample key word outlines, brainstorming ideas, review games, and helps for motivating students.

The Student Book contains assignments, instructions, engaging source texts, blank outlines, checklists, sample compositions, and clever vocabulary cards. Lessons are written directly to the student, and include easy-to-follow assignments plus in-book exercises.

Suggested activities are included for Janice Campbell's Excellence in Literature: American Literature, 3rd Edition; these are optional.

This set includes access to a free download of the Student Resource Notebook, which is a necessary component of this course, as well as the Advanced US History-Based Writing Lessons Reproducible Checklists e-book (31 pages).
