A Course That Makes Teaching Art So Easy
Just two 30-minute lessons a week are all it takes to give your child a full year of meaningful art education. The textbook doubles as a workbook, so your child's activity pages and your read-aloud narrative passages are all in one place. No hunting for materials, either: each lesson includes a supply list of simple household and craft items like uncooked macaroni, wooden craft sticks, tempera paints, and ribbon, so you're always prepared before you open the book.
Templates in the back give you a head start on several projects, and an answer key handles the fact-based exercises for you. Every third week, your child works through a satisfying multi-step project like a drawing, a sponge painting, a lantern, or a diorama, the kind of finished piece they'll want to keep.
Art Instruction and Activities
Lessons introduce key artistic vocabulary your child will actually use: symmetry, pattern, value, form, perspective, and texture. They'll explore the color wheel from primary to secondary colors, discover the difference between cool and warm colors, and practice mixing colors themselves.
Simple skills like tracing, lacing, molding, and cutting are practiced first in focused, low-pressure exercises. Then those same skills are put to work in multi-step projects that result in something your child will want to show off, like a beautiful lantern made from craft sticks and tissue paper, or handprint zebras peeking through waving grass.
Worksheets provide structure and practice; projects open the door to creative expression. Together, they give you the framework that makes teaching art at home feel manageable rather than overwhelming.
Activities across the year include fingerprint art, paper mosaics, playdough sculptures, wax-resist watercolor painting, step-by-step drawings in a simplified style, sponge painting, a wax paper melt, and origami paper folding.
Eye Spy: Noticing God’s Glory
This curriculum will build your child’s faith through the Eye Spy moments that invite students to pause and look for God’s character reflected in art, creation, and everyday life. These guided prompts connect each lesson’s art skill to Scripture, helping children see how God's design, order, and attributes show up in the world around them and training young eyes to view creativity and creation through a Christ-centered lens.
The Progression from First Grade's Art Level 1
Art Level 2 assumes basic pencil and scissor proficiency and builds on those skills with greater precision and independence. Step-by-step drawing becomes a core skill, projects grow slightly more sophisticated (drawing + cutting + assembling), and children begin developing their own artistic style through small creative decisions about their work.
